Do you need newborn care in Granger, IN? Dr. Charisse Johnson of Premier Pediatrics of Indiana is happy to assist you and your family with any questions, concerns, or checkups your child may require.

Common Newborn Questions

Q: Is it okay to put rice in my baby's bottle?

A: This was once common practice in the United States, and for many new parents, it still is. However, not only can adding rice to your baby's bottle cause tummy issues that can prevent sleeping but it can also increase their risk for choking.

Q: My baby won't stop crying! What's going on?

A: Crying is how babies communicate with their caregivers when they are in need of something. This may be due to hunger, teething pain, a messy diaper, or stomach problems. Try going through a checklist of things they might need and, if the crying continues and you are concerned, you can always call Dr. Johnson for newborn care in Granger, IN.

Q: Is it okay to put a stuffed animal or blanket in the crib with my baby while they sleep?

A: It is not safe or advisable to allow your child to sleep with anything in the crib (including a blanket or stuffed animal). The only thing in the crib should be a firm mattress, a fitted sheet, and the baby. If you are worried about your baby becoming cold at night or during nap time, they make various sleep wraps that are safe for newborns.

Q: How do I know if my baby has gotten enough to eat?

A: Every baby is unique and has different food requirements, so it's important to pay attention to weight gain and do diaper counts instead of hyper-focusing on the quantity of food. Regular wet diapers as well as a steady increase in weight are all positive signs that your baby is getting plenty of food and nutrients.

The newborn phase can be downright exhausting and very confusing, so it's important to turn to people who have quality advice and proper training to help guide you.
